One day an initiate [member of Eckankar] in Texas realized that he really didn’t know much about divine love. So in his contemplation he asked the Mahanta, this inner side of myself, “Show me divine love.”
Suddenly his dog walked up and licked him on the face.
It startled him. He was doing his spiritual exercises, and he had his eyes shut, trying to be very spiritual, asking a very important question, when his sweet dog walks up and washes his face. The dog had never done this before.
The man admits he’s a very slow learner; he has a lot of doubts. For a while after this he wondered, Was it a coincidence that the dog picked just this time to lick my face for the first time? But it kept happening. In fact, his sweet dog friend walks up and washes his face for him every time he sits down to do his spiritual exercises.
This is how the Holy Spirit is bringing him the knowledge of what divine love is.
Divine Love for Pets
People feel it’s OK for God to love them, and for them to love God. And if you have pets, you may know divine love is shared between you. But other people, who don’t have pets and don’t understand about divine love, might say, “Pets are pets. You like your pets, but you certainly would never call a person’s love for a pet divine love. Are you kidding? Divine love for a dog, a cat, a bird?”
Divine love is something that is shared. In the same way it comes from God to people, it is shared from people to people, from people to pets, and from pets to people. It works very simply. Divine love doesn’t have the barriers that the human mind makes.
God’s love doesn’t make divisions or separations like this, but the human mind does.

L’amour est le soutien de la vie
One of the reasons I love this story is because in saying, “Show me divine love,” the answer came in the simplest of ways, through a pet. Some may overlook such a seemingly small gift, but the receiver was paying attention and connected the dots. Some might go throughout their day never recognizing that small act was divine love in motion. How exquisite that the initiate in this story not only got the gift of receiving divine love but that he got it in an ordinary moment that may have been missed if he hadn’t been paying attention, turning that moment from ordinary to extraordinary! Thank you for sharing that beautiful example of divine love in action with us, Sri Harold!
Isabella is my wonderful Shitzu Pomeranian 12#lb special bundle of love! When 2 mo old as part of a litter of 5 puppies she sold her love to me by fetching a little toy teddy bear & bringing it to me!
She constantly shows her unconditional love to me with great demeanor & ever loving ways to Fetch & wagging her tail!
My wife Sue, of 55 yrs just translated & Bella knows how to keep me busy playing fetch & walking with me, showing her unconditional love!
I am forever grateful that my wife had me find a replacement for Spirit Blue a 18# Shitzu/Poodle.
Animals are great friends & know intuitively what you need from them

May The Blessings Be!
Nice story Harold. If you love animals they’ll give you double love. Keep it up
My cat, Lucky, loves to do spiritual exercises with me or my husband. He sits on my lap or on the back of the couch. He is full of love and I know he is Soul.
This is a beautiful story. It not only depicts that God’s Love is not selective, but also show how a question of a Chela is answered immediately, through Mahanta, the Living Eck Master. I have experienced several times that my questions are answered immediately. Such is the Love of Mahanta. We , as humans are selective, but not the Sugmad, the Eck and the Mahanta. Such a great lesson to learn. Thank you Mahanta!
WONDERFUL!
GOD’S LOVE IS IN EVERY LIVING THING!
A beautiful thought especially when your beloved cat reaches up and kisses you
L’amour de Dieu est toujours disponible. Merci Mahanta.
Very funny story Harold!
I had a long living papillon that waited until he was 15 years old to tell me he had been my very favorite cat in my mid twenties….
GOD LOVES US SO MUCH!
